What are the different stages of the Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasite?
There are four stages of the Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasite.
- Ring
2. Trophozoite
3. Schizont
4. Gametocyte
- Ring Form:- Ring form of p.faliciparum consists of 2 or more rings with a small chromatin dot.
- Trophozoite stage:- Trophozoites are compact, vacuolated and sometimes having two chromatin dots
- Schizonts:- Schizont stage of plasmodium falciparum consist of 18–24 merozoites filling 2/3 of the cell
- Gametocytes:- Gametocyte stage of plasmodium falciparum is Crescent and banana-shaped, with diffuse chromatin and single nucleus.
Note:- The size of infected red blood cells remains unchanged as before normal size.
